Leaving Poland for more than 30 days is a basis for terminating temporary protection and losing UKR status. For Ukrainians, this may change the conditions of stay in Poland and the right to assistance. This is reported by the Border Guard of Poland.
UKR Status: how leaving Poland for more than 30 days affects it
The rule applies to staying outside Poland, not just trips to Ukraine. A long-term exit to another country may also lead to the termination of protection.
Receiving temporary protection in another EU state is a separate basis for losing it in Poland. In such cases, the duration of the trip is not the only factor.
At the same time, the PESEL number and the UKR mark have different meanings. The identification number is retained even if the status has changed. An old paper certificate of PESEL assignment does not confirm the current right to temporary protection.
Upon return, it is advisable to check the entry in the register. If UKR is lost, one should contact the municipality to clarify the reason and the possibility of re-registration. The mere crossing of the border should not be considered confirmation of status renewal.
For travels with a valid UKR, border guards recommend showing a valid passport along with the current Diia.pl document. It is important to consider this when preparing documents for travel.

Payments 800+: what to check after returning to Poland
Restoring UKR does not mean automatic renewal of all payments. Each program has its own conditions, and for the 800+ assistance, the actual residence of the applicant and child in Poland is essential.
According to ZUS clarification, for Ukrainian citizens with UKR status in 2026, the following will be considered:
- the legality of the applicant and child's stay;
- residency of both in Poland;
- the professional activity of the applicant with specified exceptions;
- the child's fulfillment of educational obligations in the Polish system;
- submission of the necessary application for payment.
The requirement for professional activity comes into effect on February 1, 2026. Exceptions are provided for certain families raising children with disabilities. The educational requirement also applies with consideration of the child's age and established exceptions.
If the payment has stopped, after returning, you should check the message in eZUS and provide the requested documents. Departure affecting the right to assistance should be reported to ZUS: the mere receipt of money in the account does not confirm the legality of its acquisition.
Therefore, it is necessary to check both the UKR entry and compliance with the conditions for payment 800+. Funds received without the right to assistance may be requested back along with interest.
