Teenagers aged 17 are allowed to travel abroad: what documents are needed and when can they be denied

During martial law in Ukraine, young citizens who have a few days left until their 18th birthday face difficulties crossing the border. Unlike adults, their access to leave the country is restricted. However, for 16-17 year old teenagers, the situation is somewhat different: they have the right to travel abroad independently from the age of 16, provided they meet certain conditions.

Young travelers aged 16-17 should have a foreign passport, a military registration certificate, a permission to leave from parents or guardians, as well as medical insurance. However, they may be denied at the border if they have an invalid or damaged document, lack necessary documents, or face other unforeseen circumstances. To avoid troubles, it is better to familiarize yourself with the entry rules of the destination country in advance and remember that not everything will always be easy and smooth.
