As of September 25, Russian aggression has led to the destruction and damage of 1599 cultural heritage sites and 2415 cultural infrastructure objects across Ukraine. A total of destruction has been recorded in 18 regions and 326 territorial communities. This was reported by 'Glavcom' citing the Ministry of Culture.
Among the 1599 damaged cultural heritage sites, 149 have national significance status, 1300 - local significance, and 150 - newly discovered objects.
Regions with the greatest destruction
- Kharkiv - 341 sites.
- Kherson - 293 sites.
- Odesa - 182 sites.
- Donetsk - 173 sites.
- Kyiv region and Kyiv - 154 sites.
As a result of hostilities and shelling, 2415 cultural infrastructure objects have been damaged, of which 491 have been completely destroyed.
The greatest losses occurred in club institutions - 1175 objects, libraries - 848 objects, art education institutions - 184 objects, museums and galleries - 133 objects, theaters, cinemas, and philharmonics - 50 objects.
The cultural infrastructure sustained the greatest losses in Donetsk, Kharkiv, Kherson, Kyiv, Sumy, and Mykolaiv regions.
The Ministry of Culture emphasizes that due to the temporary occupation of almost the entire territory of Luhansk and significant parts of Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, and Kherson regions, an accurate calculation of the number of affected cultural institutions in these areas is impossible.
As a reminder, as of July 21, 2025, due to the large-scale Russian aggression, 1528 cultural heritage sites and 2359 cultural infrastructure objects have been destroyed and damaged in Ukraine.
The news reports that as a result of Russian aggression in Ukraine, a significant number of cultural heritage sites and cultural infrastructure objects have been damaged. Destruction and damage have been recorded in most regions, with the highest number of sites affected in Kharkiv and Kherson regions. It is partly impossible to assess the destruction in occupied territories, which further emphasizes the scale of the problem and the losses of cultural heritage.
