NATO Military Committee Makes Historic Visit to Kyiv

For the first time in eight years, the NATO Military Committee conducted an official visit to Kyiv. The delegation, representing all 32 member states of the Alliance, was led by Admiral Cavoli Dragone. During this visit, discussions were scheduled with Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Mykhailo Drapatyi to assess the current battlefield situation. Admiral Dragone had previously reaffirmed his commitment to this visit in conversations with Commander Drapatyi.

NATO’s Continued Commitment to Supporting Ukraine

Admiral Dragone emphasized NATO’s ongoing military backing for Ukraine. Despite the committee’s physical absence from the country over the past eight years, Ukraine has remained a central focus in the Alliance’s strategic discussions and decision-making processes.

“After an eight-year hiatus, the NATO Military Committee is making an official return to Kyiv. Even when not present on the ground, Ukraine has consistently been at the forefront of our thoughts, debates, decisions, and actions — every single day,”
Admiral Dragone stressed.

Member nations of NATO are intensifying defense production to meet two key objectives:

  • Protecting their own citizens;
  • Supporting the Ukrainian armed forces.

The visit, which took place in October and was confirmed by Commander Drapatyi, highlights the critical importance of NATO-Ukraine cooperation amid ongoing security challenges.

This high-level visit signals a revitalization of NATO’s active partnership with Ukraine, marking a significant step forward given the complex security environment in Eastern Europe. With persistent conflicts and regional tensions, NATO’s support plays a vital role in strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities and enhancing collective security across the area.
