Military Maxim Grynyk: how he escaped captivity after the first battle and continues to serve
Maxim Grynyk, a 30-year-old serviceman of the 50th regiment named after Colonel Semen Vysochan of the National Guard of Ukraine, was captured by the Russians during his first combat mission, which took place in the Donetsk direction. A group of three fighters, including Maxim, fell into an ambush set by the Russians, resulting in serious consequences for his comrades and Maxim himself.
During the battle, Maxim was wounded by an automatic burst. He survived a shooting in which his friend was killed, and a third comrade died on the spot. Evacuation of the wounded began at 4:30, but the situation was critical. After sustaining injuries, Maxim was evacuated to a medical facility in Ivano-Frankivsk, where he underwent rehabilitation.
The Present of Maxim Grynyk
It has been a year since the injury, and Maxim is awaiting surgery on his arm. His experience of war leaves a deep mark in his memory. Reflecting on those events, he notes:
“I fell and did not move. I thought: if they see that I am alive – they will finish me off.”
After enduring the horror, Maxim continues to serve, demonstrating courage and resilience. His comrade shared words of support with Maxim: “If it helps you feel better – we killed them all: five of them were taken out with drones.”
Today, Maxim Grynyk continues his service in the National Guard of Ukraine, despite all the difficulties he has faced. His story is an example of the indomitable spirit and courage of Ukrainian soldiers in the fight for their country.
