Situation with Valeriy Pastula in Chernivtsi
In Chernivtsi, serviceman Valeriy Pastula was forced to leave the waiting area at the bus station due to the closure of the facility at night. Veterans, learning about the situation, raised funds for his overnight stay as the temperature outside dropped to minus 15 degrees.
Valeriy Pastula serves in the 14th brigade and was returning from Kup'yansk to Novodnistrovsk. He arrived in Chernivtsi in the evening, but, according to the schedule of the bus station 'Chernivtsi', which operates from 5:30 AM to 9:30 PM, he had to leave the waiting area. The cost of a room in the hostel on the station premises starts from 300 hryvnias, however, the soldier could have used a free stay in the hostel's lobby or in a special room but declined this opportunity.
Public Reaction
Kostiantyn Kostaсhuk, one of the veterans, commented on the situation:
“Imagine: you are traveling from Kup'yansk on vacation to Novodnistrovsk. For various reasons, you have only 100 hryvnias in your pocket. You arrive in the evening at the station. The only way to get to Novodnistrovsk is by minibus in the morning. You sit in the waiting area and wait. But at 9:30 PM, you are kicked out.” - Kostiantyn Kostaсhuk
This incident sparked outrage among the public, especially considering the severe weather conditions. Veterans who learned about the situation actively participated in raising funds to ensure Valeriy Pastula's overnight stay.
This situation highlights the importance of social responsibility and support for veterans returning from combat zones. The need to provide adequate rest conditions for servicemen, particularly in cold weather, remains a pressing issue. Public reaction to such incidents can prompt changes in policies regarding military service at transport facilities.
