The Nigerian government has emerged as a leader and managed to free 100 schoolchildren who were abducted in Niger state. This was reported by local television Channels TV, according to 'Glavcom'.
According to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), armed bandits took 12 staff members and over 200 children from the Holy Mary Catholic boarding school in the village of Papiri, Niger state, in November. At that time, 50 students managed to escape, but the fate of the remaining children and staff remained unknown.
Representatives of CAN and local authorities have not yet received confirmation of the children's release but hope that this information will prove to be true.
Subsequently, the Nigerian government plans to express its position regarding the state of emergency declared in the country after a wave of mass abductions of students and Christian believers, which led to the closure of several educational institutions.
The number of schoolchildren abductions in Nigeria has become so alarming that even the president has adjusted his travel schedule due to the need to address this issue.
