Ukraine's National Police Opens Cases, Contacts Europol Over Hungarian Kidnappings

Ukraine's National Police Launches Criminal Proceedings

The National Police of Ukraine has initiated criminal proceedings following the kidnapping of Ukrainian citizens and the seizure of an Oschadbank service vehicle in Hungary. Details of the incident have been entered into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations. The cases have been opened under two articles of Ukraine's Criminal Code:

  • Article 146 – unlawful deprivation of liberty or kidnapping,
  • Article 147 – hostage-taking.

International Cooperation Activated

Officers from the Department of International Police Cooperation of the National Police have reached out to European law enforcement agencies, specifically contacting Europol, the Hungarian Tax and Customs Administration, and Hungarian police. Investigative actions are currently underway to determine the full circumstances of the event.

This incident underscores the critical need for international cooperation in combating cross-border criminal activity. Kidnapping and hostage-taking are grave crimes that demand swift response and coordination between law enforcement agencies of different nations.
