The third president of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko was elected chairman of the supervisory board of the National Museum of Holodomor-Genocide. The decision was made at the first founding meeting of the newly created body that will oversee the museum's operation and its strategic development. This is reported by «Glavcom».
The position of chairman of the supervisory board is not a state position in the government. It is an executive role in a special oversight body of the state museum, which is intended to ensure transparency, independence, and public oversight of its activities.

During the founding meeting, board members also elected a deputy chairman and a secretary. The former extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of Canada to Ukraine, Roman Vasyuk, became Viktor Yushchenko's deputy.
The secretary of the supervisory board was elected as the founder and head of the Holodomor Descendants Network, Olha Soroka. Board members were appointed for a five-year term.
The board includes Myron Vasylyk, Anton Drobovych, Hanna Kapustян, Taras Kytzmei, Olena Koval'ska, Andrii Kohut, Bohdan Lohvynenko, and Viktor Rud'.
The supervisory board of the Holodomor Museum will oversee its development
The supervisory board is to monitor the museum's activities and its officials, as well as ensure a balance between the interests of the state, society, the scientific community, and international partners.
Among its tasks is supporting the strategic development of the museum, enhancing scientific work, international cooperation, and preserving the memory of the Holodomor-Genocide of the Ukrainian people. The board will also address issues related to the further development of the museum complex and the completion of its construction.
The Ministry of Culture formed the first compositions of the supervisory and expert councils of the museum in July 2026. They included representatives of Ukrainian public organizations, international organizations, the Ukrainian diaspora abroad, and the scientific community.
The establishment of such bodies is prescribed by legislation to strengthen independent control over national cultural institutions. The supervisory board does not manage the day-to-day operations of the museum, but it influences its strategic decisions and management standards.
