In the city of Vinnytsia, local resident Olga Baturina recently celebrated her 100th birthday. Her granddaughter, Iryna Holovina, shared insights into her grandmother’s remarkable life story and the habits that contributed to her longevity. These include regular physical activity, a protein-rich breakfast, an optimistic outlook, and a strong work ethic. Olga Baturina was born in 1926 in the Tashkent region of Uzbekistan. She earned a higher education degree from the Molotov Tashkent Medical Institute, specializing in sanitary and hygienic sciences, and qualified as a doctor. After university, she worked as a state sanitary inspector for the Ministry of Health of the Nakhchivan Republic. Her first daughter was born on Sakhalin Island, while her second daughter was born in Vilnius. She retired at the standard retirement age in 1996 but returned to work just four years later. Until 2010, she served as a sanitary doctor specializing in municipal hygiene at the city’s sanitary-epidemiological station, accumulating over 59 years of professional experience.

As Iryna Holovina noted,

“My grandmother worked until she was 84. For many SES employees, she was a mentor.”

Olga Baturina’s longevity secrets include daily physical activity, which always began with morning exercises. Iryna Holovina recalled:

“Every morning started with a workout. She created her own exercises and routines. It didn’t matter how she felt or what the weather was like—she never skipped her morning training.”
Breakfast was also a must, typically protein-based, featuring cottage cheese or an omelet. Olga always packed lunch for work, and she was especially known for her Uzbek plov. Iryna added, “I’ve never tasted dishes as delicious as her Bird’s Milk cake and Lemon pie anywhere else.”

Olga Baturina remains mentally active: she listens to the radio and solves crossword puzzles. Iryna Holovina shared, “She would say, ‘Good morning and have a happy, successful day.’ When wishing someone a happy birthday, she’d offer health and a productive, hardworking life.” Olga has two daughters, three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, reflecting her active role within the family.
