India remains exotic for many. Thus, the question of whether a visa is required for Ukrainians to enter India and how much it costs is still relevant.

In general, the question of whether a visa is needed for India should be as current and updated as possible.

Is a Visa Required for Ukrainians to Enter India?

Ukrainian citizens usually need to obtain a visa in advance for tourist trips to India. The visa-free regime that allows entry into the country solely on the basis of a Ukrainian foreign passport does not apply for ordinary tourist trips. The type of permit depends on the purpose of the visit, the planned duration of stay, and the entry method. For short holidays, an electronic tourist visa is often considered, while other categories may be needed for employment, long-term studies, or other special purposes.

India has a separate visa application system for foreigners. An application can be submitted electronically if the applicant's nationality and the purpose of the trip meet the conditions of the relevant program. However, having an electronic procedure does not guarantee automatic approval; the applicant must fill out a questionnaire, provide necessary information and documents, pay the established fee, and await a decision.

It is advisable to plan the visa application before purchasing tickets, especially if the trip has specific dates or involves transfers. Having a plane ticket, hotel reservation, or invitation does not guarantee the issuance of a visa by itself. One should not expect that the visa will be approved immediately upon arrival. For Ukrainians, the standard solution is to obtain the necessary visa or electronic permit in advance if it is available for the specific purpose of the trip.

Before starting the procedure, it is necessary to determine which document is needed. For leisure, sightseeing, or short private visits, a tourist category is usually considered. Business negotiations, treatment, education, work, participation in research programs, or long-term stays may require other types of visas. Using a tourist permit for activities that do not correspond to its purpose may lead to issues during document checks or while staying in the country.

The electronic visa is convenient as the applicant can submit the application remotely and receive the decision in electronic format. At the same time, not every type of trip is allowed to be processed through this procedure. If a person plans to work in India, undergo long-term education, engage in activities requiring special permission, or stay in the country for reasons other than short-term tourism, they need to check the requirements for the corresponding category.

It is also important to distinguish between a visa and an entry permit in a specific situation. Even after receiving a visa, the final decision regarding entry into the country is made by authorized border officials. When crossing the border, the passport, purpose of the trip, return ticket, accommodation address, and other information may be checked. Therefore, the documents indicated in the application must correspond to the actual travel plans.

For Ukrainians who are temporarily outside of Ukraine, it is important to consider the country of application submission and their legal status. If the application is submitted through a consulate, specific requirements regarding the place of residence, proof of legal stay, or personal presentation of documents may apply. For electronic visas, the rules of the relevant online procedure and the applicant's nationality are crucial.
