Ukraine's Sanctions Envoy Clarifies Distinction from His Twin Brother

Посол України з питань санкцій пояснює, чим відрізняється від свого близнюка.

Clarifying the Confusion Between the Vlasyuk Brothers

Vladyslav Vlasyuk, the Ukrainian President's Commissioner for Sanctions Policy, has publicly addressed the persistent confusion between himself and his twin brother, Vitaliy Vlasyuk, by posting a joint photograph. This issue has gained prominence due to their striking physical resemblance and their overlapping professional spheres in public service.

While Vladyslav Vlasyuk serves as the presidential envoy for sanctions, his brother Vitaliy held the position of deputy head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration from 2022 to 2023. Vitaliy Vlasyuk has also been a candidate for several other high-profile anti-corruption roles in Ukraine, including:

  • Director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine in 2023,
  • Head of the Asset Recovery and Management Agency in 2022,
  • Head of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office in 2021.

Both brothers share a background in law, further highlighting their parallel career paths.

'For the attention of anonymous Telegram channels: I can still be confused with Vitaliy Vlasyuk, and earlier it was even more likely – Vladyslav Vlasyuk.' Vladyslav Vlasyuk

This case underscores the personal and professional challenges faced by the siblings, as well as a broader issue of accurately identifying public officials. In Ukraine's current context, where information integrity is crucial, clear distinction between individuals in significant roles is vital for public trust. The situation highlights the need for transparency in official communications to prevent misperceptions that could affect the credibility of state institutions.
