Drone strikes hit four Russian sites
In the early hours of August 2, drones struck four locations inside Russia, and fires broke out at each one. The first was the Engels strategic aviation airfield in Saratov Oblast, some 630 km from the state border, which hosts Tu-95 and Tu-160 strategic bombers.
The second target was a Wildberries logistics hub in Novosemeykino, Samara Oblast, about 940 km from the line of contact; the hub caught fire. The third was the Saratov oil refinery, located 620 km from the front line, whose design capacity is around seven million tons of oil per year.
Bashneft's Ufa oil refinery was the fourth target and was hit again. This refinery is able to process about 6.6 million tons of crude per year, producing gasoline, diesel, aviation fuel, liquefied gas, and bitumen. Its diesel and aviation kerosene are used for military hardware, aircraft, and state needs.
Local residents respond
People in the affected areas have voiced anxiety about what happened. One female resident said:
'God, when will all this stop? Those sounds have left me shaking since morning. Poor people.'Another commenter pleaded:
'Please, don't order anything from Wildberries, I beg you.'A local man also said:
'We had no sirens, nothing at all... Nothing.'
