Deadly attacks across Kharkiv and Sumy regions
In the early hours of August 6, Russian forces hit Kharkiv and Sumy oblasts, killing civilians and damaging numerous residential and civil infrastructure sites. In Balakliia, three people died as a result of the strikes, while in Sumy the number of injured rose to 13 following a series of aerial bombings.
In Balakliia, the first strike targeted a private home, killing a woman and starting a fire. A second strike occurred near another private house, killing a man and a woman. During the night, drones also hit the city's private housing sector, setting two residential buildings alight and damaging neighboring homes. Both fires were eventually extinguished. Vitalii Karabanov, head of the Balakliia Military Administration, confirmed that all relevant services are working at the attack sites.
Sumy under aerial bombardment
In Sumy, the enemy dropped four guided aerial bombs on civilian infrastructure. The main impact was on a shopping center and civilian facilities in the Kovpaky district. According to updated information, within eight minutes Russian forces released eight guided bombs over Sumy's residential areas; one was intercepted by air defense. As of 8:00 a.m., the reported damage in the city included:
- a shopping center
- five shops
- windows in ten apartment buildings
- three private homes
- five cars
Oleh Hryhorov, head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, said that buildings near the impact sites suffered broken windows in the hundreds, with damage to high-rises, non-residential structures, and infrastructure.
Both regions are left with significant destruction after attacks that caused casualties and widespread material loss.
