Strike on Sevastopol: Explosions Damage Key Electrical Hub

Authorities in Russian-occupied Crimea reported an attack on Sevastopol overnight, with the main power substation sustaining damage and fires breaking out. Explosions were heard near the PS 330/220/110/35 kV "Sevastopol" substation in the early hours of August 18. The city briefly lost electricity before power was restored. Around 1:15 a.m., gunfire from a mobile fire squad was reported near the facility, along with two impacts in its vicinity. The following morning, a downed drone was found on the substation grounds, and Russian Emergency Situations Ministry personnel were working at the scene.
The Sevastopol substation handles electricity distribution from the Balaklava Thermal Power Plant and mobile gas-turbine units. It was hit previously the week before, though details on that attack's effects were not released. Two successful strikes on June 24 and 25 destroyed the facility's main transformer. In addition to the substation blast, fires were observed at military equipment storage sites and near the Kirovske military airfield, where equipment warehouses and hangars are located. On August 17, Ukrainian defense forces struck drone storage, preparation, and launch positions near Hvardiiske, as well as an Orion drone ground control station in Novofedorivka.
According to a social media post, one of Sevastopol's mobile gas-turbine power units was damaged in July, leaving four in working order. Subscribers described the scene: "Exhaust system pipes are scattered on the ground, with Russian emergency workers rushing around nearby." On the night of June 24, Sevastopol lost all power following an attack on the Balaklava Thermal Power Plant. The situation remains tense as events continue to unfold.
