Ukrainian Drivers Can Now Personalize Their License Plates for a Fee

Водії в Україні отримали можливість замовити індивідуальні номери на свої автомобілі за певну плату.

Personalized License Plates in Ukraine

When registering or re-registering a vehicle in Ukraine, drivers can now choose their own combination of digits for the license plate. Service centers operated by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) offer both free standard plates and exclusive paid series. If a driver is not satisfied with the options initially presented, they have the right to refuse them. The center's administrator is required to provide a complete list of all available free plates at that location.

Registration Costs and Premium Combinations

To select a combination from the standard list, a fee of 360 UAH is required. The full package of mandatory payments for registration, excluding premium digit combinations, includes:

  • Center administration service — 350 UAH,
  • Registration certificate form — 606 UAH,
  • Physical license plate — 350 UAH,
  • Combination selection service — 360 UAH.

Premium combinations feature plates with identical or repeating digits, mirrored or sequential numbers, and other categories approved by the MIA. The cost for these special plates for passenger cars ranges from 4,800 to 96,000 UAH. This initiative is part of a broader modernization of government services in the country. When purchasing a premium combination, the 360 UAH selection service fee is waived. However, the 350 UAH administration fee and the 606 UAH cost for the technical passport form remain mandatory even with a premium plate purchase.

This new initiative aims to increase driver satisfaction by allowing them to select plates that better match their individual tastes or needs.

Given the wide price range for premium combinations, drivers can find options to suit their budget, which may also stimulate the market for vehicle registration services. This change reflects a growing trend toward personalization in various service sectors in Ukraine.
