Ukraine Introduces Tougher Rules for Drivers
Starting June 1, Ukraine has implemented a series of stricter regulations for drivers, including enhanced oversight of window tinting, mandatory technical inspections for commercial vehicles, expanded automated traffic enforcement, and updated parking fees. In certain cases, vehicles may be temporarily impounded.
As of June 1, commercial vehicles—such as taxis, car-sharing services, and delivery fleet cars—are now required to undergo mandatory technical inspections. The cost of these inspections ranges from 800 to 1,500 hryvnias, depending on the region. If serious mechanical defects are found, the vehicle may be banned from operation until repairs are made.
Updated parking tariffs have been rolled out in Kyiv, Lviv, Odesa, and Dnipro, with rates potentially rising by 15–20%. The fine for unpaid parking remains at 340 hryvnias. Parking violations will now be recorded automatically, without the need for an inspector on site, streamlining the enforcement process.
To broaden the network of automated traffic enforcement, approximately 150 new camera systems are set to be installed on roads by the end of summer. These cameras will monitor:
- speeding
- running red lights
- illegal use of public transport lanes
Fines for speeding range from 340 to 1,700 hryvnias, depending on the severity of the offense.
