Replacing a Driver's License in Ukraine
The Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs has outlined the procedure for replacing a lost driver's license as part of its 'Ask the MIA' project. This process can be completed either in person at an MIA service center or online through official digital services. Once successfully processed, a new license is issued with a fresh validity period.
During the ongoing martial law, a medical certificate is not required to replace a lost license. Drivers also do not need to retake any driving tests, which significantly simplifies obtaining a replacement document. Upon renewal, the license's validity is reset, and the new document is issued for a standard 30-year term from the date of issue.
Required Documents and Procedure
To apply for a replacement driver's license, you must prepare the following documents:
- A valid identity document (such as a Ukrainian passport);
- An extract confirming your place of registration;
- Your taxpayer registration number;
- A medical certificate (though this is currently waived under martial law).
The in-person procedure involves visiting any territorial MIA service center, submitting the necessary documents, having your photo taken on-site, and receiving your new license. The online process requires logging into the 'Driver's Cabinet' or the 'Diia' app, submitting an application for a replacement, and choosing a pickup method: either at an MIA service center or via postal delivery. These streamlined services are part of broader government efforts to maintain essential public services during the war.
