Why You Cannot Take Your Category B Driving Test on Your 18th Birthday

Важливі нюанси, які потрібно врахувати перед іспитом на водіння категорії B у ваш день народження.

Age Restrictions for Obtaining a Category B Driver's License

The Main Service Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs has clarified the age rules for taking the Category B driver's license exam. According to Ukrainian law, you must be 18 years old to take the test. However, due to a technical limitation in the registration system, you can only schedule your exam for the day *after* your 18th birthday. Holding a license for another vehicle category does not grant any exemption from this rule.

Access to the theoretical exam for a Category B license is strictly granted upon reaching 18 years of age. For example, if your birthday is on the 12th of the month, the earliest you can officially take the test is the 13th. This rule, which restricts driving cars to adults, is established by Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Resolution No. 340.

The Examination Procedure

The 'E-appointment' system checks the applicant's age on the chosen exam date. If you are not yet 18 on that date, the service will be automatically denied. It is worth noting that Ukrainian law does allow prospective drivers to begin theoretical study and practice on closed training grounds before turning 18. Nevertheless, possessing a license for another category does not provide an advantage regarding the age limit: both the theory and practical driving tests for a passenger car are only possible after your 18th birthday.

Candidates are strongly advised to double-check that their birth date aligns correctly with their chosen exam slot. They can select any available time in the 'E-appointment' system for any day after they turn 18. While waiting, applicants can use the time to thoroughly review test materials to increase their chances of passing on the first attempt.

These age restrictions for the Category B driver's license exam underscore the importance of road safety, as driving a car is a responsible activity requiring maturity and knowledge.

While the 'E-appointment' system offers convenience for candidates, it strictly enforces the legal age requirements. This technicality is an important factor for new drivers in Ukraine to consider when planning to get their license as soon as they are eligible.
