The Verkhovna Rada extended the state of war: what it means for Ukrainians

The Ukrainian parliament has extended the state of war for another 90 days. This decision was supported by 317 deputies during the session on October 21, 2025. This is already the 17th consecutive time the state of war has been extended in Ukraine.



Additionally, a decision was made to extend the general mobilization until February 3, 2026. 315 deputies voted for this. One deputy voted against, and one abstained from voting.



The state of war in Ukraine was imposed on the day of the Russian invasion on February 24, 2022. Since then, the Verkhovna Rada has systematically continued its actions every three months.



The Ukrainian parliament decided to extend the state of war and general mobilization for 90 days, considering the tense situation in the country and at the borders. This decision is part of Ukraine's strategy to defend its territorial integrity amid aggression from Russia.
