Wildfires Rage Across Kyiv Region
A rapidly spreading wildfire in the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone and the Bucha district has sparked serious concern. As of the morning of May 8, the blaze in the Exclusion Zone had expanded beyond 1,100 hectares. Driven by powerful storm winds and unseasonably dry weather, the fire presents significant challenges for firefighters and raises the risk of an even more destructive crown fire.
Strong gusts are pushing flames into the tree canopy, which could lead to a fast-moving crown fire that is extremely difficult to contain. Meanwhile, a separate large-scale fire is burning near the village of Tarasivshchyna in the Bucha district, affecting roughly 100 hectares. This includes about 70 hectares of forest floor and an additional 30 hectares of open land.
