Ukrainian driver Oleksandr Bondarev has become the champion of Formula 4 for the first time in the history of Ukraine. The decisive race of the final stage of the series took place at the Lusail circuit in Qatar, where the title holder of the season was officially determined. This is reported by Sport.ua.
Before the two final races of the season, Bondarev, who is a driver for the Formula 1 team Williams Racing, had a comfortable lead over his main competitor. As a result of the qualifying rounds, the Ukrainian started from the fourth position, significantly strengthening his chances in the championship battle.
Formula 4 Champion from Ukraine: the course of the decisive race
Before the final starts of the season, Oleksandr Bondarev was ahead of the Frenchman Andy Kosani by 23 points. To secure the title ahead of schedule, the Ukrainian needed to finish no lower than ninth place. Kosani could only contend for the championship conditionally, needing to win and Bondarev to finish tenth or lower.
The race was tense. Already on the first lap, the safety car was deployed, and during the restart, Bondarev made a mistake and lost one position. Despite efforts to return to the battle for fourth place, the Ukrainian finished the race in fifth.
Historic Formula 4 title for Ukraine
Andy Kosani won the race, David Kosma finished second, and Christopher Kostoy finished third. However, Bondarev's result turned out to be more than sufficient for overall victory in the championship.
This title was the first in Oleksandr Bondarev's career in the overall Formula 4 standings and the first championship for Ukraine in this category of motorsport. Previously, the Ukrainian had only won the rookie standings of the E4 series in 2025.
Earlier in December, Oleksandr Bondarev became a true star of Ukrainian motorsport, winning two races at the second stage of the F1 GP Trophy championship in Abu Dhabi.
