Andriy Yermak: relations with American politicians
One of the sources of irritation for both the Republican and Democratic parties of the USA has been the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak. This was reported by the Financial Times and anonymous officials in Kyiv and Washington.
The publication notes that managing to irritate politicians from both American parties is an 'unusual feat that few can brag about and that should not be celebrated in Kyiv.'
It was also noted that Yermak’s actions might exacerbate the situation and do not always indicate his loyalty to Ukraine, which could harm President Zelensky and the country as a whole.
One former American official interviewed noted that Yermak 'is trying to achieve a central role in decision-making too often, which poses a threat to Ukraine.'
Vulnerabilities and victories of Yermak
Some former officials acknowledged that Yermak has had successful achievements, particularly his participation in the World Summit in Switzerland in 2024, but others noted the lack of consideration in some of his actions. The deterioration of Yermak’s relations with American politicians occurred after his last trip to Washington in June.
'He is trying to squeeze into the center of decision-making to the extent that it starts to harm (President Volodymyr, - ed.) Zelensky and Ukraine,' noted an unnamed official.
The planned meeting of Yermak with White House Chief of Staff Suzy Wiles did not take place, and attempts to contact Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President Jay DiVance's team were unsuccessful.
As a result of Yermak's unreflected actions, relations with American politicians have deteriorated, and his attempts to interfere in decision-making could harm both the president and Ukraine as a whole.
