Safety Training Featuring an Emotional Support Dog
On World Animal Protection Day, children had a unique opportunity to join a special safety lesson led by Toto, an emotional support dog, alongside a mine safety instructor from the Rapid Response Mobile Rescue Center "Sumy" of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (DSNS). During the event, rescuers handed out specially designed safety guides created in partnership between DSNS Ukraine and UNICEF Ukraine.
Kids were able to meet Toto, pet him, and interact closely with the dog. As an emotional support animal, Toto plays a vital role in assisting rescuers by fostering a calm and positive environment, which helps children absorb the safety information more effectively. The safety materials distributed contain key protective guidelines aimed at helping children stay safe in everyday situations.
The Role of Animals in Safety Education
This initiative highlights not only the importance of child safety but also showcases how animals contribute positively to children’s emotional well-being during educational activities. The collaboration between DSNS Ukraine and UNICEF Ukraine reflects a shared commitment to raising safety awareness among children through engaging, playful, and supportive settings. Incorporating emotional support dogs like Toto into learning programs represents an innovative strategy to reduce stress and improve understanding of safety issues among young learners.
