Ukraine's Used Car Market: Freshly Imported Vehicles Dominate at 77%, Buyers Await VAT Return for EVs

На українському ринку вживаних автомобілів переважають свіжо імпортовані моделі, у той час як споживачі з нетерпінням чекають повернення ПДВ на електромобілі.

The State of Ukraine's Used Car Market

Freshly imported vehicles now account for a dominant 77% of Ukraine's used car market, representing a significant 24% increase compared to 2024. This surge in demand for these recently arrived cars highlights a major shift in consumer preferences within the country. The market is heavily influenced by imports, as many Ukrainians seek newer models from abroad. Meanwhile, a key factor driving interest in electric vehicles is the anticipated return of the Value-Added Tax (VAT) on January 1, 2026, which is expected to stimulate purchases of electric cars.

Combined, the Tesla Model Y and Model 3 attracted over 20,000 new owners, underscoring the rising popularity of electric vehicles in the Ukrainian market.

Given the market's dynamics, the growing share of freshly imported cars points to evolving consumer habits, with Ukrainians increasingly favoring new or nearly-new vehicles. The prospect of VAT returning for electric cars could provide a further boost to the market, potentially accelerating sales of EVs, which are already showing positive registration trends. These developments suggest a gradual transition of Ukraine's vehicle fleet toward more environmentally friendly transport options in the coming years.
