Russian Military Casualties and Mobilization Drive

Robert Brovdi, the commander of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces and known by the call sign 'Madyar,' has reported that for five consecutive months, the net balance of Russian troop numbers—factoring in both arrivals and departures—has remained negative. He argues this points to severe losses among Russian forces, a trend backed by data on Moscow’s mobilization efforts and casualty statistics from drone and artillery strikes.

Between December 2025 and April 2026, Russia mobilized and contracted 148,400 personnel. The monthly breakdown is as follows:

  • December 2025: 33,000
  • January 2026: 20,200
  • February 2026: 25,400
  • March 2026: 34,600
  • April 2026: 35,200

These figures align with statements from Russian Security Council Secretary Dmitry Medvedev, who on April 30, 2026, claimed 137,000 individuals were mobilized in 2026—127,000 as contract soldiers and 10,000 as volunteers.

Drone and Artillery Impact on Russian Forces

Over the same period, Ukrainian drones inflicted heavy damage on Russian troops, killing or wounding 156,735 personnel. These drone-related casualties were tracked through the Delta situational awareness system, which boasts over 200,000 active users. Monthly drone-caused losses are as follows:

  • December 2025: 33,006 killed or wounded
  • January 2026: 29,572
  • February 2026: 26,204
  • March 2026: 33,989
  • April 2026: 33,964

Additionally, Ukrainian artillery has confirmed the destruction or neutralization of 4,651 Russian soldiers, with video evidence supporting these claims.

Over the 11 months since the Unmanned Systems Forces (USF) were established, their overall effectiveness rate against personnel stands at 29.59%. During USF operations, 305,700 targets were confirmed as destroyed or neutralized, including 90,470 personnel—48,843 killed and 41,627 wounded. In April 2026 alone, USF drones eliminated or neutralized 10,581 Russian soldiers, accounting for 31.15% of all Ukrainian drone-based personnel strikes that month.

Notably, eliminating a single Russian soldier costs between $300 and $500, while the average drone expenditure per kill over the USF’s 11-month operational period is $882. The USF is intended to make up 5% of Ukraine’s total military force, but currently stands at just 2.5%.

“The scenario of Kyiv falling in three days on Ukrainian territory will never happen again,” Robert Brovdi stated.

The commander’s remarks underscore the pivotal role of drone technology in modern warfare, particularly in the context of the conflict in Ukraine. Russia’s escalating mobilization efforts suggest an attempt to offset the heavy losses sustained in recent months. The casualty statistics are also significant, as they could impact troop morale and the broader frontline situation, with high losses potentially signaling declining Russian operational effectiveness in the region.

As the situation on the battlefield evolves, recent reports indicate a staggering increase in daily Russian military casualties, with nearly 1,000 losses recorded in just one day. This surge in casualties highlights the ongoing effectiveness of Ukrainian military strategies, particularly in the utilization of drones.
