Russian losses in the war with Ukraine
As of August 2025, Russian losses in the war with Ukraine amounted to at least 220,000 killed aged between 18 and 55 years. This is reported by 'Glavkom' citing research from Russian media.
The named list of the dead includes 125,681 individuals. The media compiles the named list from open sources, including obituaries and media reports. Journalists emphasize that this number does not reflect all losses, as not every death is publicly known.
Lawsuits and officer deaths
By the beginning of August 2025, approximately 50,000 lawsuits had been filed in courts to recognize servicemen as dead or missing. Most often, these lawsuits are filed by representatives of the Ministry of Defense, as it is necessary for them to exclude a missing serviceman (i.e., effectively deceased) from the personnel lists.
As of August 28, media confirmed the deaths of over 5,500 officers of the Russian army and other law enforcement agencies. The deaths of 12 Russian generals have also been officially confirmed: three lieutenant generals, seven major generals, and two retired generals.
Recent enemy actions
It is known that the 1283rd day of the full-scale war in Ukraine is ongoing. Over the past day, there were 191 clashes. Yesterday, the enemy launched three missile and 70 air strikes, employing 36 missiles and dropping 117 guided aerial bombs. In addition, there were 5,358 shellings, including 102 from multiple launch rocket systems, using 6,205 kamikaze drones.
As a reminder, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine updated the losses of Russian occupiers as of the morning of Friday, August 29, 2025. Over the past day, Ukrainian defenders eliminated 850 occupiers.
As reported, the Defense Forces eliminated the brother of the controversial State Duma deputy Vitaly Milonov. Alexander Milonov was a volunteer in the reconnaissance unit of the 'third general army of the LPR' and fought against Ukrainian defenders. He was injured and ended up in a hospital, where he later died from complications.
Contract payments
It is worth noting that for the second quarter of 2025, 37,900 individuals received payments for signing contracts with the Russian Ministry of Defense, which is 2.5 times less compared to the same period in 2024.
Summary:
The study established that losses of the Russian Federation in the war with Ukraine amounted to at least 220,000 dead. It was noted that this is only a part of the losses, as not all cases of death were reported to the public. Numerous lawsuits and officer deaths were also highlighted, as well as the recent enemy actions within the war. Additionally, it is worth noting the decrease in payments for signing contracts with the Russian Ministry of Defense compared to the previous period.
