Google Play Protect blocked 27 million new malicious apps in 2025 before they could appear in the Play Store, the report states. Still, the main dangers to Android users remain social engineering, phishing, public Wi-Fi without a VPN, and older devices that no longer receive OS or security updates. The TSA has officially warned about the risks of open Wi-Fi networks, which create additional opportunities for attackers.
