WhatsApp's Interface Gets a Refresh

Meta is rolling out an update to WhatsApp for Android that introduces a 'Contacts' tab, designed to make it easier for users to find people to talk to. This was reported by 'Glavcom' based on information from wabetainfo. The new tab will likely be placed on the bottom navigation bar, giving users quicker access to their contact list.

What's New in WhatsApp

Within this tab, users will be able to see contacts who are currently online or have been active recently. However, individuals who have chosen to hide their 'online' status or last seen time will not appear in this list. The goal of this feature is to enhance the overall user experience on WhatsApp.

Earlier, the app already added a separate section for Meta AI tools and moved user statuses to the top of the chat list. Additionally, new channel filters are currently being tested in the conversations tab. Developers are considering either removing or replacing the Meta AI tab with the 'Contacts' section, though no final decision on the app's layout has been made yet.

This feature is still in development and is not yet available even in the beta version of WhatsApp. The release date for the stable version has not been announced. Details about expanding WhatsApp's capabilities were shared on the company's official blog.

The introduction of the 'Contacts' tab could be a significant step forward for WhatsApp, as it simplifies user interaction and boosts the app's convenience.

This update, along with previously implemented features, shows Meta's commitment to improving the user experience, which could help the app stay competitive in the crowded messaging market.
