Propaganda Videos Taken Down by YouTube
YouTube has removed 61 propaganda videos and fully suspended the channel of the Alabuga Special Economic Zone for violating the platform's policies. Located in the Republic of Tatarstan, Alabuga serves as one of Russia's key military-industrial hubs, where Shahed-136 drones—also referred to as Geran-2—are actively produced.
As part of a broader cleanup campaign targeting content linked to the Alabuga SEZ, the platform deleted at least 61 videos promoting the Alabuga Polytech project. This action followed Google's enforcement of rules that prohibit content glorifying violence, supporting terrorist activities, or being associated with sanctioned military facilities of an aggressor nation. The official Alabuga SEZ channel has also been completely blocked.
Drone Manufacturing and Stricter YouTube Policies
With Iranian assistance, Alabuga has established production lines for Shahed-136 loitering munitions. In response to increasing content moderation demands, YouTube has announced tighter publishing guidelines, including the rollout of automated systems to detect AI-generated content. These measures reflect growing efforts to safeguard the information environment and combat disinformation.
This incident is part of a global trend toward stricter control over misinformation and propaganda on social media, especially concerning military conflicts. As one of the largest video-sharing platforms, YouTube emphasizes its responsibility to ensure user safety and comply with international norms amid rising threats from terrorist and aggressive actions. The blocking of the Alabuga channel may signal wider efforts to cut off resources supporting military and terrorist initiatives.
