Ukraine is transitioning to a new voltage standard starting July 1, 2025. The country will now use a nominal voltage of 230/400 V instead of the familiar 220 V. This step is part of the harmonization of legislation with European standards, reports 'Glavkom' citing the National Commission for State Regulation in the Spheres of Energy and Utilities.

New standards for power quality

In March 2024, the national standard for voltage characteristics was abolished. Instead, in May of the same year, the European standard EN 50160 was approved, which will come into effect on March 1, 2025. At the meeting on April 15, the NCRECP approved changes to the Distribution System Code to adapt to the new technical norms.

As a result of these changes, a positive impact on the quality of electricity supply is expected, reducing the risk of equipment damage and increasing energy efficiency.

The changes in voltage and power quality standards in Ukraine will contribute to improved electricity supply, reduce the risks of equipment damage, and enhance energy efficiency. The new standards comply with European norms and indicate the harmonization of energy legislation with international standards.
