Ukraine's New Year Brings Revised Family Benefits: Higher Payments and Expanded Eligibility

Новорічні зміни в Україні: підвищення соціальних виплат для родин та розширення умов їх отримання.

Revised State Support for Families with Children

A new law reforming state support for families with children came into force in Ukraine on January 1st. This legislation introduces increased payment amounts and broadens the categories of assistance available, providing a significant boost to households raising children. These changes are part of a broader social policy effort to support families during a challenging period.

Specifically, the one-time payment for the birth of a child has risen to 50,000 hryvnias. Furthermore, uninsured pregnant women are now eligible for a benefit of 7,000 hryvnias per child, payable for 70 days before and 56 days after childbirth. Additionally, the monthly assistance for children with disabilities is now set at 10,500 hryvnias. Childcare benefit accruals begin the day after maternity leave concludes.

The 'єЯсла' Program and Prenatal Support Application

A new initiative, the 'єЯсла' program, has also been launched, offering up to 12,000 hryvnias. It should be noted that the technical rollout of this new program may take some time; therefore, social protection authorities recommend submitting applications directly to the Pension Fund of Ukraine or the Ministry of Social Policy.

Applying for the prenatal support requires a specific set of documents:

  • passport
  • identification code
  • OK-5 certificate
  • medical certificate of temporary disability

These reforms are designed to improve conditions for families and provide them with essential financial support.

The new legislative initiative aims to alleviate the financial burden on households with children, a particularly vital measure given the economic pressures facing the country. The increased benefits and introduction of new programs represent crucial steps in supporting Ukrainian families, offering greater financial stability and opportunities for development. This policy may also positively impact the nation's demographic trends by encouraging birth rates. Consequently, the implementation of this law could yield long-term positive outcomes for society as a whole.
