Starting September 1, 2025, Ukrainian schools will celebrate significant changes in the teaching of the subject 'Defense of Ukraine' for students in grades 10-11. The updated program provides for an increase in the learning load and a new approach to teaching.
The most important change will be the abolition of division into groups by gender. Now all students - both boys and girls - will study the subject together, regardless of gender.
The number of hours has been increased and the program updated
The learning load for the subject 'Defense of Ukraine' is increasing to 2 hours per week. Previously, 1.5-2 hours were allocated weekly.
The updated program focuses on practical skills and modern aspects of security and defense. The curriculum includes the study of first aid, unmanned systems, and countering misinformation - skills that are extremely important in today's challenges.
Veterans and specialists will teach the subject
The Ministry of Education plans to involve veterans with relevant education and specialists working in this field to teach the subject. This approach will help ensure a high level of practical training for students.
The state allocated significant funds for the update of the subject - 1.74 billion hryvnias were allocated for this reform back in December 2023.
