Ukraine’s Scheduled Power Outages: What to Expect
From October 1, certain areas in Ukraine will experience planned electricity shutdowns due to the fragile state of the country’s power grid. These measures come as a direct response to extensive damage inflicted on energy infrastructure by ongoing Russian attacks. Power will be cut twice daily: once in the morning between 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM, and again in the evening from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with a load reduction of 0.5 in the outage queue.
These restrictions will also apply to industrial and commercial sectors during the daytime hours from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM. The recent escalation in attacks, particularly targeting Kyiv, Kyiv Oblast, and other regions, has severely impacted the energy system. Notably, the night of September 30 saw the largest assault on energy infrastructure since the end of the last heating season. Since summer 2023, Russian forces have launched near-daily strikes against Ukraine’s energy facilities, causing widespread disruptions.
Official Appeals to Citizens
Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyy shared updates about these attacks on his Telegram channel, urging local authorities to inspect backup power systems at critical community sites.
“Please use electricity responsibly!” urged Ukrenergo, the national energy company.
This energy crisis demands heightened vigilance from both residents and local governments to maintain the operation of essential services and infrastructure.
