From 2026, the vaccination calendar in Ukraine will change: new vaccines and schedules

З початку 2026 року в Україні оновлять програму щеплень: з'являться нові вакцини та графіки вакцинації.

Updated National Vaccination Calendar in Ukraine

Starting January 1, 2026, the updated National Vaccination Calendar will come into effect in Ukraine, which includes new vaccines and changes in vaccination schedules. These changes aim to enhance the effectiveness of disease prevention and reduce mortality among the population.

One of the main innovations is the introduction of vaccination for girls aged 12-13 against the human papillomavirus (HPV), which is an important step in the fight against cervical cancer. Annually, around a thousand women die from this disease in Ukraine, so the implementation of such vaccination can significantly reduce these figures.

Changes in Vaccination and New Approaches

Additionally, the new calendar provides that children will receive combination vaccines instead of several separate shots. This decision aims to simplify the vaccination process and ensure maximum protection during one visit to the doctor. As stated by Deputy Minister of Health Igor Kuzin,

“we will gradually transition to the use of combination vaccines to ensure maximum protection during one visit to the doctor”
.

Ukraine is also abandoning the oral polio vaccine in favor of an inactivated vaccine, which will increase vaccination safety. Furthermore, the timing for administering measles and tuberculosis (BCG) vaccines is changing, which is also an important step in improving the vaccination program.

All these innovations are part of a broader vaccination reform aimed at ensuring reliable protection for the population against dangerous infectious diseases. With the new vaccination calendar, Ukraine hopes to improve the overall health of its citizens and reduce the incidence of vaccine-preventable diseases.

The changes in the National Vaccination Calendar reflect the growing attention to health issues in Ukraine. The implementation of new vaccines and the improvement of vaccination schedules could significantly enhance the epidemic situation in the country, especially in the context of combating serious diseases such as cervical cancer and polio. These steps also indicate the adaptation of the healthcare system to modern challenges and the needs of the population, which may positively influence overall morbidity and mortality in Ukraine.
