A New Safety Net for Expectant Mothers in 2026
Starting in 2026, pregnant women in Ukraine—including teenagers who are not covered by the mandatory state social insurance system—will be eligible for maternity and childbirth assistance. According to the new measure, the right to this support begins on the date the child is born.
Monthly Payment and Its Significance
The benefit is set at 7,000 hryvnias per month. It will be paid in full for the entire maternity leave period, regardless of how many leave days were actually used before delivery. The aim is to assist pregnant women who lack access to standard social insurance protections.
This initiative represents a meaningful step toward better social security for women facing financial hardship due to the absence of state insurance. By easing the economic strain on young mothers and their families around childbirth, the payout could also support broader efforts to improve the country's demographic outlook.
