Service Member Released from Russian Captivity

A soldier from the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine was freed from Russian captivity on June 5. He had been taken prisoner while carrying out a combat mission in the Sumy region. His wife, Daryna, traveled to six previous prisoner exchanges hoping to see her husband, and the seventh attempt finally brought him back.

Upon returning home, the serviceman will undergo recovery at a rehabilitation center run by Ukraine’s Ministry of Internal Affairs. At home, his one-and-a-half-year-old son is waiting for him.

Welcome home, warrior

This release highlights the ongoing prisoner exchange process amid the conflict between Ukraine and Russia. It underscores the critical humanitarian efforts and the resilience of families who endure long waits for their loved ones. For former captives, rehabilitation and recovery are essential steps toward rebuilding a peaceful life after the trauma of war.

The return of this serviceman is a poignant reminder of the ongoing efforts to secure freedom for many others still in captivity.
