Two children returned from temporary occupation: how the rescue took place in Kherson region

Два малюка повернулися з тимчасового полону: як відбулася їхня евакуація в Херсонській області.

Return of children from the occupied left bank of Kherson region

Two children aged 4 and 7 were returned from the temporarily occupied left bank of the Kherson region. The return took place on December 30 as part of the Bring Kids Back UA initiative and with the support of the Save Ukraine organization. This event has become significant in the context of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Efforts to return children

During 2025, a total of 288 children were returned from the temporary Russian occupation in Kherson region. This reflects the efforts being made to rescue Ukrainian children who have found themselves under the control of the occupiers. At the same time, it is known that the Russian Federation holds Ukrainian civilians and military personnel in more than 300 locations, which raises concerns among the international community.

“A real New Year's gift has been received by two families from the still-occupied left bank of Kherson region.”

Oleksandr Prokudin

This return has become important news for families who have endured difficult times under occupation. It is also worth mentioning that on October 2, 185 Ukrainian defenders returned from Russian captivity. However, not all stories end happily: two soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were captured on December 27 and, unfortunately, shot.

The return of children from occupied territories is an important part of efforts to restore their rights and well-being in Ukraine. This initiative not only helps families reunite but also highlights the humanitarian aspects of the conflict that need attention from the international community. The efforts aimed at returning children reflect Ukraine's desire to protect its citizens even in the most challenging conditions. At the same time, the necessity for the release of civilians and military personnel from captivity remains consistently pressing amid the ongoing hostilities.
