Military Personnel Decorations
Since the full-scale invasion began four years ago, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has awarded state honors to approximately 230,000 service members. From February 2024 alone, over 123,000 defenders have been recognized for their courage and valor in the fight against the aggressor.
On February 25, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed decrees awarding the title of Hero of Ukraine to soldiers of the Security and Defense Forces. That same day, the president also awarded defenders with orders and medals and conferred military ranks.
The Significance of Recognizing Heroism
The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, emphasized the importance of acknowledging the heroism of the nation's warriors:
'For personal bravery, resilience, professionalism, and effective actions in the fight against the Russian aggressor, I presented the best warriors with state awards and decorations of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.' - Oleksandr Syrskyi
These awards, presented over the four years of war, have gone to service members from corps, separate assault regiments, and battalions, underscoring the high value of their contribution to national security. The scale of these honors reflects the immense and sustained effort required to defend Ukraine's sovereignty.
Recognizing military personnel during this difficult period is a crucial step in sustaining the morale of both the army and society. Acknowledging the defenders' merits highlights not only their bravery but also the immense efforts undertaken to protect the country from external aggression. This also helps preserve the memory of Ukrainian warriors' heroism for future generations.
