The government of Ukraine has made an important decision to launch a pilot project for controlling the origin of exported timber according to European Union standards. This initiative aims to prevent deforestation and forest degradation, as well as harmonize Ukraine's legislation with European norms.
The launch of the electronic exporter cabinet as part of the Unified State System for Electronic Timber Accounting will allow enterprises to confirm the origin of timber, provide geographical coordinates of harvesting areas, and generate necessary documents for export to the EU.
The implementation of this pilot project has a positive impact on the Ukrainian woodworking industry, allowing access to the EU market, reducing the risks of corruption, illegal logging, and contributing to forest preservation. The effectiveness of the project will be assessed over two years.
