Incidents in Kyiv During Severe Cold Snap
Kyiv law enforcement officers rescued a man who became lost while jogging in extreme cold. The man sought help while suffering from severe hypothermia and could barely speak. Police promptly arrived at the scene and located the victim. To warm him, the officers used their patrol car to heat the man before transferring him to paramedics for hospitalization.
Second Incident in the Kyiv Region
In a separate winter-related incident near the village of Lebedivka in the Vyshhorod district of the Kyiv region, a UAZ vehicle fell through the ice while being driven on a frozen body of water. Two men were in the vehicle at the time. Tragically, rescuers have already recovered the body of one man, while the search for the other passenger continues into its second day.
Police are urging citizens to plan their routes carefully, stick to familiar paths, and keep their phones charged to avoid similar situations in the future. These incidents highlight the severe dangers posed by winter weather in Ukraine, where temperatures can plummet rapidly.
These events underscore the critical importance of caution during winter conditions, especially for outdoor sports and recreation on frozen waterways. Using familiar routes and maintaining communication can significantly reduce risks to life and health in cold and potentially hazardous situations. The swift response of rescue services and police proved vital in these cases.
