The Death of Volunteers in the Battles for Ukraine
Polish volunteer Kacper Bass, known by the nickname Frenchman, died on December 31, 2025, from injuries sustained in the Kharkiv region. It is known that Bass, 28 years old, suffered severe injuries, but the exact circumstances of the incident remain unclear. Another soldier who was nearby also sustained serious injuries and is currently in a coma. The cause of the injuries could have been:
- artillery shelling;
- a drone strike;
- the use of a grenade.
After sustaining injuries, Bass was evacuated to Poland with extensive burns to his body. Unfortunately, he died on December 31 due to severe damage to his skin, lungs, and kidneys.
The Tragic Death of Russell Wilson
Another volunteer, Australian citizen Russell Allan Wilson, died on December 12, 2025, in the Donetsk region during combat operations. Wilson had likely been serving in the Ukrainian Defense Forces since 2023. This tragedy underscores the risks and challenges faced by foreign volunteers in Ukraine.
The deaths of Kacper Bass and Russell Wilson are evidence of the high risks that foreign volunteers face when they join the fight for Ukraine.
