Police Captain Killed Near Toretsk: The Story of Officer Known as Kep

Life and Service of Andrii Slautin

On January 13, 2025, police captain Andrii Slautin, who went by the call sign Kep, died in the city of Toretsk in Donetsk region. He was 41 years old at the time of his death. Born on May 22, 1983, in Chernihiv, Slautin attended School No. 10 in his hometown. After graduating, he earned a degree in software for automated systems from the International Scientific and Technical University.

Before his military service, Slautin worked as a quality inspector at the Chernihiv Bread Products Combine and as a manager at Forsage LLC. He served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine from 2006 to 2007, then spent seven years working in the tax police department of the State Tax Service in Chernihiv region. In 2013, he completed a law degree at Chernihiv Polytechnic National University. He later served as director of UK Consulting Group LLC and at the State Research and Design Institute NDIproektrekonstruktsiia. From 2018 to 2023, he was the director of Europroject-2017 LLC.

Military Service and Memorial Honors

When Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Slautin stepped up to defend his country. He reported to the military enlistment office on the very first day, February 24, 2022, but was initially turned away. In February 2023, he joined the Liut Assault Brigade of the National Police, serving as deputy platoon commander in the Safari assault regiment. During his service, he was wounded three times but continued to carry out his duties.

Andrii Slautin received several awards:

  • Medal for the Defense of Ukraine (posthumous)
  • Order for Courage, Third Class
  • Combat Cross Badge

The police captain was laid to rest at the Yatsevo cemetery in Chernihiv. He is survived by his mother, wife, son, two daughters, and sister.
