The Death of a Military Academy Cadet

The death of a 17-year-old cadet of the Military Academy in Odesa, who was found dead on November 26, 2025, has caused serious public outcry. The police of Rivne region is investigating this tragedy, having opened a criminal proceeding for incitement to suicide. In addition, the law enforcement is checking information about possible non-statutory punishments at the academy.

The cadet, who was studying in the first year at the Military Academy in Odesa, became a victim of circumstances that require thorough investigation. According to current legislation, a criminal proceeding has been opened under part 3 of Article 120 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of seven to ten years. Some officials of the educational institution have already been temporarily suspended from their duties.

Investigation and Its Consequences

Evidence collection is currently ongoing, during which video materials and mobile phones have been seized. The police stated that 'actions have been committed that have obvious signs of humiliation of human dignity.' The Military Academy also confirmed that 'preliminary results of the official investigation indicate the existence of violations of military discipline.' The investigation continues, and society is awaiting conclusions that will clarify all circumstances of this tragic event.

This situation draws attention to issues of safety and psychological support for cadets in military educational institutions. In the context of increasing demands on military personnel, it is important to ensure proper conditions for training and education, as well as to monitor adherence to military discipline. The results of the investigation could have far-reaching consequences for the military education system in Ukraine and raise questions about the need for reforms in this area.
