Honoring the Memory of Vadym Rusynskyi
Every morning at 9 a.m., Ukrainians hold a moment of silence for all those whose lives were taken by the Russian-Ukrainian war. Today, we remember Vadym Rusynskyi, a fighter of the DZOR special forces unit, who was killed on June 4, 2022, while carrying out a combat mission in the Donetsk region.
Rusynskyi held the rank of master sergeant and joined the State Border Guard Service in 2014. He served at the Kyiv checkpoint (OKPP) in a force support group. In 2018, he applied for the selection course to join the DZOR unit in Zhytomyr. After completing his contract in 2021, he left military service and worked for a private security company that escorted commercial ships at sea.
On February 24, 2022, he was on his first maritime voyage. Upon learning about Russia's full-scale invasion, he disembarked at the first port in Egypt. He then returned to his unit, which was already engaged in battles near Kyiv. By the end of May, Rusynskyi was deployed to carry out combat missions in the Donetsk region.
Battles Near Sviatohirsk
On June 4, 2022, Russian forces launched an assault on the city of Sviatohirsk. The enemy attacks were accompanied by massive artillery and tank fire. Fighting raged on the outskirts and in the city center, where Vadym Rusynskyi sustained a fatal wound from an enemy shell.
By a decree of the President of Ukraine on July 28, 2022, Master Sergeant Vadym Rusynskyi was posthumously awarded the Order for Courage, Third Class. The Commander-in-Chief joins the moment of silence, honoring his memory and sacrifice.
Honoring those who died in the war is a vital part of Ukraine's national consciousness. Vadym Rusynskyi has become a symbol of the courage and self-sacrifice shown by soldiers on the front lines. His story highlights not only personal bravery but also the importance of supporting and recognizing the efforts of everyone fighting for Ukraine's independence.
As we reflect on the bravery of soldiers like Vadym Rusynskyi, it is important to also remember other heroes who have made the ultimate sacrifice. The story of Senior Lieutenant Datsenko, who lost his life while shielding a comrade from a missile strike, serves as a poignant reminder of the selflessness displayed by those in combat.
