The Death of Volodymyr Muzh

The death of Ukrainian defender Volodymyr Muzh, who served in the 423rd Separate Battalion of Unmanned Systems 'Scythian Griffins', is a profound loss for his family and his nation. He was killed while carrying out a combat mission, having given his life to defend his homeland.

The Life of Volodymyr Muzh

Volodymyr was born on May 12, 2001, in the village of Leshchativ, part of the Sokal city community in the Sheptytskyi district of the Lviv region. He received his primary education at a local school before continuing his studies at the Bob'yatyn Secondary School (grades 1-9) until 2016. He then attended the Luchytska Secondary School (grades 1-11) until 2018. From 2018 to 2022, he pursued higher education at the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute named after Igor Sikorsky, in the Faculty of Applied Mathematics.

In March 2022, Volodymyr volunteered for the Ukrainian Volunteer Corps 'Right Sector' (DUK PS). Following the corps' disbandment in November 2022, he was transferred to the 67th Separate Mechanized Brigade 'DUK'. During his service, he attained the rank of Junior Sergeant, received a Combat Participant certificate, and was awarded the 'War Veteran' medal on August 29, 2023.

In the autumn of 2023, Volodymyr transferred to RUBpAK – a strike unmanned aerial vehicle complex company within the 67th Brigade. There, he operated bomber drones to destroy enemy equipment and personnel and was involved in mining territories. His primary operational areas included:

  • the Kharkiv region
  • the Lyman region
  • the Luhansk region

In December 2024, Volodymyr transferred to the 423rd Separate Battalion of Unmanned Systems 'Scythian Griffins', where he held the position of squad commander. He is survived by his mother, Nadia; his father, Bohdan; his grandmothers; and his sisters and brothers with their families. His death is a heavy blow to his loved ones and all who knew him.

Volodymyr Muzh, like many other Ukrainian servicemen, has become a symbol of Ukraine's struggle for independence and territorial integrity. His service and heroism in combat underscore the critical role of drone operators in modern warfare and the immense sacrifice made by a generation defending their country. The loss of such defenders causes deep pain across society and underscores the need to honor their memory and their deeds.
