Ukrainian Army Aviation Losses in December 2025

Ukrainian army aviation units sustained significant losses in December 2025. Reports of crew fatalities came from various brigades engaged in combat operations. For instance, on December 17, 2025, a Mi-24 helicopter crew from the 12th Separate Army Aviation Brigade named after General-Khorunzhyi Viktor Pavlenko was killed. This loss was confirmed by the 11th 'Kherson' Army Aviation Brigade, which expressed profound sorrow over the death of their comrades.

Furthermore, on December 8, 2025, Senior Navigator Lieutenant Colonel Yevhenii Vitaliiovych Ivanov of the 39th Tactical Aviation Brigade was killed in the eastern sector while carrying out a mission in a Su-27 fighter jet. These losses represent a severe blow to Ukraine's army aviation, as each of the fallen were true patriots who gave their lives for their homeland. These incidents highlight the intense and sustained nature of aerial combat in the ongoing conflict.

Other Losses and Their Consequences

Among other losses, it is important to note the death of MiG-29 fighter pilot Major Serhii Viktorovych Bondar, who was killed on August 23, 2025. It is known that he failed to return after completing a combat mission while on final approach for landing. Bondar was 46 years old. These tragedies underscore the immense risks faced by Ukrainian military pilots in the line of duty.

The loss of military aviators poses a serious challenge for the Ukrainian armed forces, as each pilot plays a crucial role in maintaining the country's air security. These events not only highlight the heroism of the pilots but also point to the urgent need for enhanced safety measures and support for aviation brigades. In the context of the protracted war, such losses can impact troop morale and the overall operational capacity of Ukraine's air force.
