Oleksii Shumylo: A Hero Who Gave His Life for Ukraine
Senior soldier Oleksii Shumylo was killed in action on April 14, 2022, during a battle in the village of Borova, Kharkiv region. For nearly a year, he was considered missing in action. He was 34 years old. Born on October 19, 1987, in the city of Pivdennoukrainsk, Mykolaiv region, he later relocated to the settlement of Vysokopillia in the Kherson region.
His Path in Life
Oleksii studied to become an electrician in Nova Kakhovka, then settled with his mother in the village of Novopavlivka. He worked on farms and eventually took a job as an electrician at the Bila Krynytsia railway station, part of the Kherson power supply division of the Odesa Railway. He married Iryna after a two-year courtship. In 2021, their son Ivan was born.
On February 24, 2022, Oleksii voluntarily joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine, mobilizing into the 79th Separate Air Assault Tavriiska Brigade. He served as a driver in an engineer-sapper company, demonstrating great courage and dedication to his duties.
His wife Iryna recalls: 'He was kind, brave, and calm. Back in 2014, he wanted to join the military, but it didn't work out. But on February 24, 2022, he went to Mykolaiv and enlisted in the Armed Forces as a volunteer.'
After his death, Oleksii was buried in the village of Novopavlivka in the Kherson region. He is survived by his mother, son, and wife. Iryna also remembers: 'He was overjoyed about his son. He spent a lot of time with him after work. He was very caring. He said he loved him.'
