The Tragic Death of Yurii Kostiukevych
On June 3, 2025, 38-year-old soldier Yurii Kostiukevych lost his life while carrying out a combat mission in Donetsk Oblast. His remains were identified through DNA testing, and a farewell ceremony took place on June 18, 2026, at Independence Square in Rivne. He was laid to rest at the Alley of Heroes in the Novyi Cemetery in Rivne.
His Life and Service
Born on June 27, 1986, in Rivne, Kostiukevych attended School No. 22 and later earned a degree as a plasterer from Higher Vocational School No. 1. He was mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine in February 2025 and quickly adapted to military life. Those who knew him say he never complained and was always ready to protect and assist others.
“He was a very positive guy, always ready to defend and help—he did everything with a smile,” said Yurii Kostiukevych’s mother.
During his school years, Kostiukevych played rugby and was physically fit. After his death, he was initially listed as missing until a DNA test confirmed his identity. He leaves behind his parents, three brothers, and two sisters, who will remember him as a caring son who always found kind words for his family.
