‘Angels’ Unit Rescues Marine Officer’s Family from Occupied Zone Amid FSB Torture Attempts

Героїчна операція: Врятування родини морського офіцера з території, де відбуваються катування ФСБ.

Rescue Mission for Relatives of a Ukrainian Marine Officer

The Ukrainian Navy’s special reconnaissance unit known as the 'Angels' successfully extracted the father and aunt of a marine officer from territory temporarily held by occupying forces. The family members had been detained by Russia’s FSB, which sought to coerce the officer into collaboration by threatening the safety of his loved ones. This high-risk evacuation was carried out with support from the Ministry of Defense’s Main Intelligence Directorate, resulting in the safe return of the relatives.

In June 2026, the officer received a call from his father’s number, but the line was answered by Russian intelligence agents. This marked the beginning of intense pressure on the family, including physical abuse. The officer’s father later revealed that after his capture, he endured beatings and torture at the hands of the FSB. The 'Angels' unit became involved after the unit commander alerted authorities about the dire situation.

Ukrainian Military’s Commitment to Protecting Families

The Ukrainian Navy’s press service highlighted that family members of Defense Forces personnel who remain in occupied areas are often targeted by Russian intelligence. Occupying forces use intimidation, unlawful detention, and threats as tools to force Ukrainian defenders into cooperation.

This operation exemplifies Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to safeguard its citizens and military families affected by aggression. Similar missions continue across other parts of the country. For instance, in a frontline village in Sumy region, aerial reconnaissance spotted an elderly man who had fainted, prompting a medical evacuation. Additionally, the Kraken drone regiment of the Third Army Corps conducted a ground-robot-assisted evacuation of four civilians from a frontline area in Donetsk.

These efforts emphasize the critical importance of protecting vulnerable civilians caught in conflict zones. Beyond saving lives, these operations demonstrate the unwavering resolve of Ukrainian Defense Forces to ensure the safety of their people under the most challenging conditions. Celebrating these successes, Ukraine’s military reaffirms its commitment to never leaving anyone behind.

In addition to the recent rescue operation by the 'Angels' unit, the Ukrainian military continues to demonstrate its commitment to protecting civilians in conflict zones. A similar mission was carried out by the 21st Brigade UAV scouts, who successfully evacuated an elderly man from a frontline area in the Sumy region using advanced technology. Such efforts highlight the ongoing challenges faced by families in occupied territories and the innovative approaches being employed to ensure their safety.
